Hydrofluoric Acid Alkylation (HF Alky) process valves

Hydrofluoric Acid Alkylation (HF Alky) process valves

Because the HF alky process occurs in the presence of an acid such as sulfuric acid (H2SO4) or hydrofluoric acid (HF) as catalyst, specialized valves and materials are required. Depending on the acid used, the unit is called a sulfuric acid alkylation unit (SAAU) or hydrofluoric acid alkylation unit (HFAU). Repair and testing of valves used in this process is not for most shops, but Midwest Valve Services has a successful track record of partnering with major refineries to produce like-new results.

Refineries that demand precise testing and repair of valves choose to partner with Midwest Valve Services.

Historically, double-ported sliding-stem valves have been used in Hydrofluoric Acid Alkylation (HF Alky) units. Newer valve designs utilize the post-guided trim of the EZ-type valve and the V-ball-type control valve, used for most applications up to NPS 4. For valves NPS 6 and larger, it is desirable to use a V-ball-type control valve solution. However, shifting from an A-body to a V-ball-type valve is a significant change in control valve selection. Midwest Valve can handle repairs of both types, as well as others.
